Muslim woman tells the rules of beating wives

Muslim woman tells the rules of beating wives.

You can beat your wife, as long it’s the right sort of beating!

Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has given one over the other and what they spend [for maintenance] from their wealth. So righteous women are devoutly obedient, guarding in [the husband’s] absence what Allah would have them guard. But those [wives] from whom you fear arrogance – [first] advise them; [then if they persist], forsake them in bed; and [finally], strike them. But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand.” (Sura 4:34, Sahih International)

  1. Narrated `Ikrima:
Rifa`a divorced his wife whereupon `AbdurRahman bin Az-Zubair Al-Qurazi married her. `Aisha said that the lady (came), wearing a green veil (and complained to her (Aisha) of her husband and showed her a green spot on her skin caused by beating). It was the habit of ladies to support each other, so when Allah’s Messenger (?) came, `Aisha said, “I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women. Look! Her skin is greener than her clothes!” When `AbdurRahman heard that his wife had gone to the Prophet, he came with his two sons from another wife. She said, “By Allah! I have done no wrong to him but he is impotent and is as useless to me as this,” holding and showing the fringe of her garment, `Abdur-Rahman said, “By Allah, O Allah’s Messenger (?)! She has told a lie! I am very strong and can satisfy her but she is disobedient and wants to go back to Rifa`a.” Allah’s Messenger (?) said, to her, “If that is your intention, then know that it is unlawful for you to remarry Rifa`a unless `Abdur-Rahman has had sexual intercourse with you.” Then the Prophet (?) saw two boys with `Abdur- Rahman and asked (him), “Are these your sons?” On that `AbdurRahman said, “Yes.” The Prophet (?) said, “You claim what you claim (i.e.. that he is impotent)? But by Allah, these boys resemble him as a crow resembles a crow,” Sahih al-Bukhari 5825

So if you come with a complaint of impotence against a husband, do you need to have the husband marry another wife so there are two women witnesses to make a convincing complaint? Is this a case where a platonic marriage is unacceptable?

    1. The unnamed woman is a scam artist that gives the believers a bad name. She fooled Aisha. She takes advantage of the weakness of women’s empathy by fooling Aisha. She fabricated a green color on her skin because she has a secret plan to return to her former hubby.

Her hubby testifies that she is lying, this could refer to :
      – he never beats her.
It is possible for that woman to paint a “green” color on her skin in order to fool Aisha? Although it is unlikely, but perhaps she harmed herself because she suffers such a psychological breakdown after being dumped by her former hubby, and wished to come back to him?

      – he is not impotent.
It is possible that her inability to feel pleasure is caused by her psychological problem? It is obvious she suffers a mental breakdown for wanting to return to her former hubby.

Prophet Muhammad proves the lies of the woman: her hubby has two sons from another wife, with likeness just like him. Then, how could he be impotent?

      1. Maybe the two sons were sixty years old…? I wasn’t there and you were not either. If AbdurRahman bin Az-Zubair Al-Qurazi consummated the marriage, then the woman could get a divorce and return to the previous husband…right? So why is Muhammed reminding them of the requirement for the unnamed woman to have sex with the second or latest husband if that was not mentioned as a problem? It is too bad these details failed to make itself known in the lines of the hadith?
The point of posting this hadith was to give an idea of the severity of the beating. It takes a pretty good bruise to turn green. There is no record in this hadith that Muhammed was upset about the severity of the beating. So when Muslins claim that the permitted beating is minor, I generally don’t believe it.

Maybe women were super sensitive in the olden days. Their skin could turn green with the slightest abuse maybe? Perhaps this phenomenon is related to females back in the seventh century starting menses at age nine instead of about 12.5 in modern times.

        1. “Danny Newton says: Maybe the two sons were sixty years old…? I wasn’t there and you were not either. She was proven to have lied of fabricating a size of her hubby private organ. She has not yet seen the nakedness of her hubby, let alone to cuddle him and otherwise.
The requirement for the return to former hubby is something that is indicated with a rare Arabic slang “enjoyin’ both sweeties”, it can refer to act of cuddlin’ both naked bodies.

“The point of posting this hadith was to give an idea of the severity of the beating. It takes a pretty good bruise to turn green.”

Hadith shows that the woman is lying: her hubby never admits that he had beaten her up into a green skin. As she produces a lie that his hubby has a small private organ, she likely also fabricates a story of being beaten up.
Thus, both her claims are rejected.
Her claims fail to materialise to be a case.

          Yes he does:
          Riyad as-Salihin, Book 1, Hadith 279.
Iyas bin ‘Abdullah reported: Messenger of Allah said, Many women have gone round Muhammad’s family complaining of their husbands. Those who do so, that is, those who take to beating their wives, are not the best among you.
          Other Hadith:
The Hadith of discipling the children uses the Arabic word “Wa-adribu-hum” which is strikingly similar with the Arabic word used in Qur’an Q.4, v.34. No one of the good parents monstrously punches their ten y.o. child until he or she gets bleeding or unconscious. This way must be just a light poking.
The same light poking (to child) is given to a rebellious wife.
Abi Dawud Book 2, Hadith 495
Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-‘As: The Messenger of Allah said: Command your children to pray when they become seven years old, and beat them (Wa-adribu-hum) for it (prayer) when they become ten years old; and arrange their beds (to sleep) separately.

“Maybe women were super sensitive in the olden days. Their skin could turn green with the slightest abuse maybe? Perhaps this phenomenon is related to females back in the seventh century starting menses at age nine instead of about 12.5 in modern times.”

Her hubby never admits that he ever abused her physically.
Her claims fail to materialise to be a case.

      2. Narrated Abu Huraira:
A bedouin came to Allah’s Messenger and said, “My wife has delivered a black child.” The Prophet said to him, “Have you camels?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet said, “What color are they?” He replied, “They are red.” The Prophet further asked, “Are any of them gray in color?” He replied, “Yes.” The Prophet asked him, “Whence did that grayness come?” He said, “I think it descended from the camel’s ancestors.” Then the Prophet said (to him), “Therefore, this child of yours has most probably inherited the color from his ancestors.”

It the American people had the wisdom of Muhammed, they would not have jumped to the assumption that Barak Obama’s father was a black man.

    1. Some women will never be happy. You give them food, cloths to wear(with a fancy fringe on it too) and proof that another woman got pregnant by her current husband and she still complains! This is surely demonstrating the unsatisfactory nature of platonic marriage. You are making it sound like impotency in the current marriage can’t be happening because it was not happening in the former marriage. Where is the wisdom of Solomon on the part of Muhammed here? It must have been a another off day for him(PBUH) like the day he said not to worry about the occasional black child your wife has.

      1. “Danny Newton says: Some women will never be happy. You give them food, cloths to wear(with a fancy fringe on it too) and proof that another woman got pregnant by her current husband and she still complains!”

I read a caption somewhere: if men know how painful the woman’s monthly menstruation is, they would not have even tried to hurt women.

“This is surely demonstrating the unsatisfactory nature of platonic marriage.”

Some women just need non-insertive intimacy. Platonic Marriage is permitted in Islam as showed by the Prophet’s marriage with Sawda based on mutual agreement per Q.4, v.128.

“You are making it sound like impotency in the current marriage can’t be happening because it was not happening in the former marriage.”

The main accusation of the wife is her hubby just has a small size, which is an idiom for eunuch. Not his impotency due to his aging.
Moreover, she doesn’t defend her baseless accusations (on his small size and her green skin) after being refuted directly by her hubby.

“Where is the wisdom of Solomon on the part of Muhammed here?”

C’mon, Solomon bluffs two disputing mothers to kill a baby..Wisdom?
I don’t see any substantial argument from a woman who fails to materialise her accusation into a case. She doesn’t defend her accusations (and lies) afterward.
She fooled Aisha, but she cannot outsmart our Prophet.

“It must have been a another off day for him(PBUH) like the day he said not to worry about the occasional black child your wife has.”

The Prophet’s answer is more rational than suspecting an Arab’s wife of conducting a Zina with a Negro. After all, there are no 4 eyewitnesses for supporting that suspicion.

She was proven to have lied of fabricating a size of her hubby private organ. She has not yet seen the nakedness of her hubby, let alone to cuddle him and otherwise.

      D. Newton: It was my understanding that the problem was that the organ was no longer suitable for the intended purpose in the current marriage, not the past marriage.

      1. Danny Newton says: It was my understanding that the problem was that the organ was no longer suitable for the intended purpose in the current marriage, not the past marriage.

Man’s impotency could have given a far worse news for her. Still she needs to marry other “functional” man (so that he and she could taste both sweeties by cuddling each other) before returning to her former hubby.

  3. Deficiency of women in the Bible:
    – a woman agrees to be called with a misogynist humiliation, even agrees it’s “Truth” for calling woman “dogs”.
That’s stupid, misogynist, and disgraceful, she is a proof how lowly deficient the woman in the Bible is.
On contrary, in Islam, Aisha gets angry when women are equated with dogs.
    Mt 15:27
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.
    Versus:
    Bukhari Vol. 1, Book 9, Hadith 493
Narrated `Aisha: The things which annul prayer were mentioned before me (and those were): a dog, a donkey and a woman. I said, You have compared us (women) to donkeys and dogs. By Allah! I saw the Prophet praying while I used to lie in (my) bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I disliked to sit and trouble the Prophet. So, I would slip away by the side of his feet.
    Muslim Book 4, Hadith 1038
Masruq reported: It was mentioned before ‘A’isha that prayer is invalidated (in case of passing) of a dog, an ass and a woman (before the worshipper, when he is not screened). Upon this ‘A’isha said: You likened us to the asses and the dogs. By Allah I saw the Messenger of Allah saying prayer while I lay on the bedstead interposing between him and the Qibla. When I felt the need, I did not like to wit to front (of the Holy Prophet) and perturb the Messenger of Allah and quietly moved out from under its (i. e. of the bedstead) legs.

    – women are stupid, silly, loaded with more sins than man.
    2Tim 3:6
For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,

    – women are Biblical defilement, even may indicate that marrying a woman is a filth:
    Rev 14:4
These are they which were NOT DEFILED with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth.

    – woman is responsible for the root cause of man’s Fall:
    1Tim 2:14
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

    – worse than a light poking (not a crime), the immolation is a way of disciplining a rebellious woman:
    Lev 21:9
And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt with fire.

    1. [email protected] :– a woman agrees to be called with a misogynist humiliation, even agrees it’s “Truth” for calling woman “dogs”.

Danny Newton: That is true, but the only difference that she made in history( that I give her credit for) was possibly failing to secure that breast feeding fatwa or Qur’an corruption after the death of Muhammed. In the case of the woman with the green bruise, I think Aisha was at least seeking justice or more moderate treatment. Overall, she is an interesting character in the history of Islam.

I am attaching the Hadith you may have mentioned. I think there was a minor translation error: Instead of the word “and” after “a woman,” I think it would smooth out the sentence by using the word “or” before the words “a woman”. This would keep a lawyer from making mischief in the land and thinking that you had to have three concurrent barriers, a dog, a donkey and a women(something like an unholy Trinity) before you to annulled a prayer. But if the Prophet Mohammed(PBUH) equates women to dogs, what choice do you have? Are you saying Muhammed was wrong?

      Narrated `Aisha:
The things which annul the prayers were mentioned before me. They said, “Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people).” I said, “You have made us (i.e. women) dogs. I saw the Prophet (?) praying while I used to lie in my bed between him and the Qibla. Whenever I was in need of something, I would slip away. for I disliked to face him.”

      1. “Danny Newton says: That is true, but the only difference that she made in history( that I give her credit for) was possibly failing to secure that breast feeding fatwa or Qur’an corruption after the death of Muhammed.”

Some Allah’s words were “abrogated” into Hadith, known as Qudsi Hadith, which doesn’t have a promise of protection just like the corrupt Bible. Personal opinions of both Aisha and Umar (on alleged missing verses) do not bind any Moslems as they do not refer their statements to our Prophet’s conformations.
But I think, maybe you don’t get or grasp my explanation because normally Non-Moslems don’t understand how to differentiate Hadith from Quran.

“In the case of the woman with the green bruise, I think Aisha was at least seeking justice or more moderate treatment. Overall, she is an interesting character in the history of Islam.”

Aisha’s personal expression is not binding us.
As I explained, the woman may have deceived Aisha’s emotion with her fake “green” skin in order to be divorced. That woman is cunning.

“But if the Prophet Mohammed(PBUH) equates women to dogs, what choice do you have? Are you saying Muhammed was wrong?”

Prophet is not either wrong of letting continue his prayer on, even though Aisha’s legs happen to cross his prayer mat, without invalidating the prayer.
So, now we have at least two “seemingly” conflicting Hadiths, right? Actually, they can be easily harmonised though.
-Marker of mat can validate on the prayers:
Muslim, Muslim Book 4, Hadith 1034.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah said: A woman, an ass and a dog disrupt the prayer, but something like the back of a saddle guards against that.
        – The word “woman” is chosen to symbolise a deductive style of speech, thus actually it applies for both males and females, or perhaps the word “woman” is chosen to hint a greater wisdom of freedom for Moslem women to walk freely, safe and secure in the public places.
The haters see it in anti-women prejudice, but we Moslems see it so valuable as as high as woman’s freedom.
Ibn Majah, Vol. 1, Book 5, Hadith 954
It was narrated from ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Sa’eed that his father said: The Messenger of Allah said: When anyone of you performs prayer, let him pray facing towards a Sutrah, and let him get close to it, and not let anyone pass in front of him. If someone comes and wants to pass in front of him, let him fight him, for he is a Shaitan (satan).

    [Abu Dawud].

    Arabic/English book reference  : Book 1, Hadith 68
‘Aishah said: “Shall I not tell you about the Prophet and I?” We said: “Yes.” She said: “When it was my night when he” -meaning the Prophet- “was with me, he came in, placed his shoes by his feet, lay down his Rida’ (upper garment), and spread the edge of his Izar (lower garment) on his bed. As soon as he thought that I had gone to sleep, he put his shoes on slowly, and picked up his Rida’ slowly. Then he opened the door slowly, went out and shut it slowly. I put my garment over my head, covered myself and put on my Izar (lower garment), and I set out after him until he came to Al-Baqi’, raised his hands three times and stood there for a long time. Then he left and I left, he hurried and I hurried, he ran and I ran, and I got there before him and entered (the house). I had only just laid down when he came in and said: ‘O ‘Aishah, why are you out of breath?’ She said: ‘No.’ He said: ‘Either you tell me or Allah, the All-Aware, All-Knowing, will tell me.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you;’ and I told him the story. He said: ‘You were the black shape I saw in front of me?’ I said: ‘Yes.'” She said: “He gave me a shove in the chest that hurt me and said: ‘You thought that Allah and His Messenger would be unfair to you.’ She said: ‘Whatever people conceal, Allah knows it.’ He said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Jibril came to me when you saw (me leave) but he did not enter upon you because you have taken off your garments. So he called me but he concealed himself from you, and I answered him, but I concealed it from you. I thought that you had gone to sleep and I did not want to wake you, and I was afraid that you would feel lonely. He told me to go to Al-Baqi’ and pray for forgiveness for them.'” ‘Asim reported it from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amir, from ‘Aishah, with a wording different from this

Danny Newton: There are several versions of this tale and the severity of the physical contact varies quite a bit. So, if Muhammed is the ideal example, it seems that you can shove your wife but beating them would mean that you failed to mirror the example of the Prophet? Why go to Al-Baqi? Is this a reference to the burial place of the wives and companions of Muhammed?

  5. “Danny Newton says: None of you should flog his wife as he flogs a slave”

Yes, the Hadith makes the emphasis of comparison that even the act of beating a slave without reason has a penalty of liberating him, let alone wife.
Secondly, besides negating a beating, Hadith also lowers a way of disciplining to be as harmless as poking which is not a crime.

“The Messenger of Allah never beat any of his servants, or wives, and his hand never hit anything”

Compare with Jesus who allows mutilation of slaves.

“No man shall be asked for the reason of beating his wife”.

Yes poking is not a crime.

“he hurried and I hurried, he ran and I ran, and I got there before him and entered (the house). He said: ‘You were the black shape I saw in front of me?’ I said: ‘Yes.’” She said: “He gave me a shove in the chest that hurt me”

There’s a common pattern in Hadith how Prophet presses his palm on someone’s chest in order to cast out the devils from him and her. That’s a kind of healing.
Ibn Majah, Vol. 4, Book 31, Hadith 3548
It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As said: He (Prophet) said: What brings you here? He said: O Messenger of Allah, I get confused during my prayer, until I do not know what I am doing. He said: That is Satan. Come here. So I came close to him, and sat upon the front part of my feet then he struck my chest with his hand and put some spittle in my mouth and said: Get out, O enemy of Allah! He did that three times, then he said: Get on with your work. Uthman said: Indeed, I never felt confused (during my prayer) after that.
Ibn Majah, Vol. 1, Book 1, Hadith 159
It was narrated that Jarir bin ‘Abdullah Al-Bajali said: The Messenger of Allah never refused to see me from the time I became Muslim, and whenever he saw me he would smile at me. I complained to him that I could not sit firmly on a horse, so he struck me on the chest with his hand and said: O Allah, make him firm and cause him to guide others and be rightly-guided.

“it seems that you can shove your wife but beating them would mean that you failed to mirror the example of the Prophet?”

The Art of harmonising the conflicting Hadiths requires the acceptance of all Hadith in same theme. You Christians keep dismissing certain Hadith that gives a huge praise to the good teachings of Prophet Muhammad, but we Moslems seek a reasonable excuse to explain the “bad Hadith” and place it as “minor or exceptional case”.

“Why go to Al-Baqi? Is this a reference to the burial place of the wives and companions of Muhammed?”

Gabriel told the Prophet to go to Baqi’ for praying for a forgiveness of martyrs. Although the souls of martyrs fly happily along with the Paradise birds, but Prophet hints a fact how they still need forgiveness a lot.
