Mohammed Hijab and the Trinity 16-21

David Wood Mohammed Hijab debate

This is our fourth and final article in our  series on Mohammed Hijab’s (MH) falsehoods and bad arguments against the Trinity used in his debate earlier this month with David Wood (DW).

If any of our readers would like to join us for an online apologetics class to discuss these topics in more depth, please do get in touch with us at [email protected].

16. You say ‘mighty God’, I say Elijah

David Wood quoted Isaiah 9:6 in defence of Jesus’ divinity:

“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

To which MH responded (paraphrasing): “Immanuel, eh? Immanuel doesn’t mean God with us….did you know Elijah means ‘God with us’ too? MH failed to respond to the objection (‘Mighty God’), confused it with another verse (Isaiah 7:14) and got the Hebrew totally wrong. (‘Elijah’ means “YHWH is God.”)  Islam Critiqued , who knows Hebrew, has made a great video on this.

17. MH: ‘There are two words in Hebrew that mean ‘Spirit’ – Ruach and rrroooooccch(?)’

There  are indeed two words for ‘spirit’ in Hebrew: ‘ruach‘ and ‘nishmoth‘. Not sure about that other one. Again, Islam Critiqued is very educational here.

18. “How can you have a begotten Son? There are only three options: biology, adoption and metaphor! So if it’s not biology and it’s not adoption then it must be metaphor! So Jesus is not the Son of God!”

Only three options, biology, adoption or metaphor? How many  more straw men does MH want to add to his collection?  What about the one viable option he left out, incarnation? “AND THE WORD BECAME FLESH and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14, NKJV) MH understands perfectly the Christian doctrine of incarnation; he just threw it under the bus to please his audience. But did he mean to throw the Qur’an under the bus with it? Sura 66:12:

“And Mary the daughter of ‘Imran, who guarded her chastity; and We breathed into (her body) of OUR SPIRIT; and she testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and of His Revelations, and was one of the devout (servants).”
How is MH suggesting Mary got pregnant in this case? Did Allah’s Spirit make her pregnant metaphorically? Did she give birth metaphorically to a metaphorical Isa?
19. “The word 3  in the Qur’an means all of the kinds of Trinities all Christians have ever believed in!”
MH was attempting to refute David Wood’s point, that Allah misunderstands the Trinity: except the the only Trinity Christians have ever believed in is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If Christians don’t believe in this Trinity, they aren’t Christians. And if there are more than one Trinity, was does the Qur’an ONLY mention the ‘trinity’ of Jesus, Allah and Mary?
“O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.” (Sura 4:171)
And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, “O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'” He will say, “Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen. (Sura 5:116)
If there really were different ‘trinities’, you’d think Allah would mention some others apart from this one, or at least give a nod to the actual Trinity – especially as Allah (allegedly) sent down the Bible.
20. Melchizzdek was eternal! Bring him into the Trinity!

MH  wonders why Melchizedek (we  will be offering MH some free pronunciation lessons) is not part of the Trinity given he is an eternal being.  But does the Scripture say this explicitly?

“First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.” Hebrews 7:2-3

Without father, mother, genealogy, beginning of days, end of life -does this mean eternality or just that these details were not recorded? In Genesis 14:18-20 Melchizedek appears out of nowhere to bless Abraham with bread and wine – reminiscent of the Last Supper. Even if this interpretation is wrong  and Melchizedek is eternal, he is never referred to as having all the attributes of God  – honour, attributes, names, deeds and seat – the way Jesus has. The point the writer of Hebrews is making isn’t that Melchizedek is God, but that He is LIKE the Son of God, who, the writer says in chapter 1:3 is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” For more on Melchizedek read this article by Sam Shamoun.

21. No Rabbi has inferred the Trinity for 4000 years?

MH was not listening properly because DW read from a Jewish commentary on the shema (Deuteronomy 6:4), the go-to passage for those trying to make a case for Unitarianism in the Bible:

“Hear O Israel, YHWH elohenu, YHWH is one. These three are one.How can the three names be one? Only through the perception of faith in the vision of the Holy Spirit and the hidden eyes alone.”

The writer was Jewish presumably. Does MH really think you can’t so much as infer the Trinity from this quotation? And this is the tip of the iceberg; there was a whole Rabbinic tradition in the 1st century AD that taught plurality within the Godhead.  For more on this topic, please read this article by Anthony Rogers and this  article by Sam Shamoun.

Mohammed Hijab is still away. We look forward to seeing him again at Speaker’s Corner to respond to our points.

Next up: MH’s defence of tawheed.

  1. Hijab does what he does with a clear motivation of getting the reward of Paradise. But how about David Wood, Sam Shamoun, Lizzy, and Hatun? Christians just do debate here and there, at Speaker’s Corners, Facebook, on podium, et cetera with no reward of Paradise promised by Jesus. That’s useless for vain.

  2. What Christians don’t understand is, when Muslims do religious thing it is counted as ritual. Hijab shows his supremacist diatribe on David Wood for his reward of Paradise. There’s strong motivation in him. When Non Muslims challenge Islam, you challenge Muslim’s personal way of Paradise. They won’t take it lightly.

In Christianity – especially the Protestant version – with Sola Fide, you don’t have such a motivation. Hey, you are already saved. No need for good works. No reward for good works.

  3. I don’t think Hijab just wished to cheaply win the hearts and minds by playing a dirty strategy of humiliating his debater David Wood. In Islamic history, Prophet Muhammad respects Muqawqis.

  4. Let me ask you this, Grace, or whatever your name is, why do Muslims feel angry if Christians say your Koran inspires you Muslims to do bad things?

  5. “Anonymous says: Let me ask you this, Grace, or whatever your name is, why do Muslims feel angry if Christians say your Koran inspires you Muslims to do bad things?”

Firstly, we Moslems don’t need the Non-Moslems to save us from our own fellow Moslems. For us Moslems, a bloody practice of FGM, Honor Killings, killing of apostates, scourging of fornicators, plunging down of homos, canning of boozers, imprisoning of gamblers, et cetera has nothing to do with you Non-Islam followers, so please stay away from us Moslems on our “internal” things.

Secondly, the way of Non-Moslems to (allegedly) “save” us uses a dirty method of mocking Moderate Moslems in same Islam. Non-Moslems play a game and dirty tactics of humiliating us Moderate Moslems by generalizing them with the radicals.

We Moderate Moslems are not your problem, we are problems for our fellow radicals….Our Islam can make us Moderate. Accept it. That’s fact. So, why do you the Non-Moslems keep judging us unfairly as a death threat, by equating us so badly as the radicals? That’s humiliating and hurting.

    How about terrorism?

“Secondly, the way of Non-Moslems to (allegedly) “save” us uses a dirty method of mocking Moderate Moslems in same Islam. Non-Moslems play a game and dirty tactics of humiliating us Moderate Moslems by generalizing them with the radicals.”

Tell me, what makes someone a Moderate Muslim anyway?

  7. “Anonymous says: How about terrorism?”

That’s a mark of the radicalism.
In fact, the first and foremost victims of terrorists such as ISIS is us Moslems. ISIS kills Moslems while sparing thousands of Yazidis women for sex slaves…Isn’t it ironic? ISIS saved Non-Moslems.
Islam forbids us Moderate Moslems from hurting, let alone killing, the innocent Dhimmis. All Arabs have a Peace Treaty thru the UN Charters with the Americans and the Europeans, but not with Israel because it still steals the Arab lands after 1967 war (not Israel in 1948 when Israel was still tiny, controllable, indefensible).

“Tell me, what makes someone a Moderate Muslim anyway?”

The crux of matter is: We Moderate Moslems don’t kill our fellow Moslems, Dhimmis, and peaceful infidels.
For us Moderate Moslems, a bloody practice of FGM, Honor Killings, killing of apostates, scourging of fornicators, plunging down of homos, canning of boozers, imprisoning of gamblers, et cetera has nothing to do with you Non-Islam followers, so please stay away from us Moslems on our “internal” things.”

How do you persuade the Non Muslims that you moderate Muslims won’t anytime switch into radicalism?
    How do you guarantee this?
Robert Spencer and his llks called you moderate Muslims a stealth jihad.

  9. “Anonymous says: How do you persuade the Non Muslims that you moderate Muslims won’t anytime switch into radicalism?”

Prophet Muhammad has prophesied the rise of Khawarijites, a radical sect of violent Moslems, they are called “dogs of Hell”, they killed so many Moslems and Caliphs in the past, and continued to do so against us today’s Moslems with no mercy.
We Moderate Moslems have been admonished by our honorable Prophet about the hellish dangers of that Khawarij sect.

    “How do you guarantee this?”

Islam itself makes us the Moderate Moslems, Hadith also commands us to be so moderate in Islam, we are raised by Allah as the best Moderate people.

“Robert Spencer and his llks called you moderate Muslims a stealth jihad.”

    Apparently that man’s motivation is fully anti-Islam, he is openly pro-homos, pro-LGBTQ, pro-abortion, pro-blasphemy.

  10. [email protected] says: Prophet Muhammad has prophesied the rise of Khawarijites, a radical sect of violent Moslems, they are called “dogs of Hell”, they killed so many Moslems and Caliphs in the past, and continued to do so against us today’s Moslems with no mercy.

Whose responsibility is this for the rise and existence of Khawrigistes in early Islam anyway? Your Koran right? How could this sect get loose and happen under Mohamed’s life? Sorry I have got little bit curious about this if you don’t mind.

  11. “Anonymous says: Whose responsibility is this for the rise and existence of Khawrigistes in early Islam anyway?”

Satan can subtly deceive and turn down the early new converts of Islam to feel being more holier, more angelic, more prouder and more greater than our Prophet Muhammad himself. That’s the sad case of Khawarijites.
They are an earthy mirror of a proud Iblis when Allah commands him to respect Adam, and Iblis may have presumed that Allah is “wrong” of ordering him to be a sinful “idolater”. Iblis thinks he must be the most pure believer of all.
In Heaven, Iblis thinks so proudly he is more better than Allah and Adam.
In early Islam, Khawarijites think proudly they are more holier than other Moslems and than Prophet Muhammad himself.

    “Your Koran right?”

No. We Moderate Moslems are also the product of same Islam and same Qur’an.
Khawarij sect is earthy mirror of a proud Iblis when Allah commands him to respect Adam, and Iblis may have presumed that Allah is “wrong” of ordering him to be a sinful “idolater”. Iblis thinks he must be the most pure believer of all. Khawarijites think proudly they are more holier than other Moslems and than Prophet Muhammad himself.

“How could this sect get loose and happen under Mohamed’s life?”

Khawarij sect happens under our Prophet, indeed. It just mirrored what had happened in Heaven in the past when Iblis went astray on his deadly pride under God’s presence.

“Sorry I have got little bit curious about this if you don’t mind.”

Moderate Moslems exist as the undeniable fruit of Islam, we are not myth… so please, stop closing the eyes, ears and mouth for this fact.

  12. Alright, back again to Mohamed Hijab vs. David Wood debates, how do you think the better format of debate should be?

  13. The debate should have prevented the crowds from verbally supporting one debater while he is uttering his arguments.
Much more better, there’s supposed a “marking” to value the arguments in each session of debate. Such as, on the word “Sallu”, is there any source in Islam or the Bible that may show another meaning besides “praying”?
    The marks:
    – If there’s any, it should be marked as “1” star.
    – If not it is “0”.
    – If the fact happens minority in Islamic sources, it should be valued as “2” stars.
    – If the fact happens majority in Islamic sources, it should be valued as “3” stars.
    – If the fact is supported by the Bible, we should give a high mark “4” stars.
    – If the fact is supported by the Non-religious evidence, such as pre-Islamic data, we give the most “5” stars.

  14. What do you think Grace, about the humble character of David Wood? Why is Mohamed Hijab acting so arrogant? Is Islamic supremacism mandatory?

  15. “Anonymous says: What do you think Grace, about the humble character of David Wood?”

That’s good. I praised his good humility. I hope David Wood himself, or his family, or his descendants, someday will convert to Islam.
Despite their idolatry, yet we never lost hope in any pagan infidel for someday repenting, embracing Islam and entering Heaven with us:
Abi Dawud Book 42, Hadith 4883
Narrated AbuHurayrah: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: There were two men among Banu Isra’il, who were striving for the same goal. One of them would commit sin and the other would strive to do his best in the world. The man who exerted himself in worship continued to see the other in sin.He would say: Refrain from it. One day he found him in sin and said to him: Refrain from it. He said: Leave me alone with my Lord. Have you been sent as a watchman over me? He said: I swear by Allah, Allah will not forgive you, nor will he admit you to Paradise. Then their souls were taken back (by Allah), and they met together with the Lord of the worlds. He (Allah) said to this man who had striven hard in worship; Had you knowledge about Me or had you power over that which I had in My hand? He said to the man who sinned: Go and enter Paradise by My mercy. He said about the other: Take him to Hell. Abu Hurayrah said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, he spoke a word by which this world and the next world of his were destroyed.

“Why is Mohamed Hijab acting so arrogant?”

As I said above, I am sure he just tries to sell the debate, that’s just for a “show”.

    “Is Islamic supremacism mandatory?”

Why is it turning as a criminal word today while we have “American Exceptionalism”?
Jesus also says to his followers in a supremacist tone that they are the city of light upon the hill?
Paul also says in a supremacist tone that “Let every soul be subjected to the higher powers, For there is no power but of God” Rom 13:1-2.
